OPT-NC (New Caledonia Post English)
The OPT-NC, or Office of Posts and Telecommunications of New Caledonia, is a public establishment with a commercial and industrial purpose in New Caledonia. It was created in December 1956 and started operating on January 1, 1958, as a national public entity linked to the Overseas Posts and Telecommunications Design Office. This was part of an effort to reorganize and decentralize Overseas Posts and Telecommunications. In 1998, the Nouméa Agreement and the organic law of 1999 allowed for the transfer of OPT-NC from the State to New Caledonia. The Congress, the deliberative assembly in New Caledonia, made the transfer request through a resolution on December 21, 1999. The Council of State's decree on May 2, 2002, enabled the transfer to become effective on January 1, 2003.
